iPhone Latest Rumors: Features, Specs, Colors

Have you ever looked at your iPhone and thought, “This is great, but I wish it were a rich, cherry red color?” If so, that’s weirdly specific, but good on you for knowing what you like. And we have excellent news! Apple is reportedly testing that very shade for their upcoming iPhone 18 Pro, so you can get hold of your dream color this Fall.

Dark cherry is said to be the signature color, and it’s joined by light blue, dark grey, and silver. The iPhone 18 Pro is going to be an eye-catching device, and no mistake.

But aside from the evocative new look, what else can you expect from the next generation of iPhones? We’ve visited every subreddit and leaker we can think of and compiled all the gossip into this very article. Enjoy!

Design and Appearance

Let’s start with the design. Last year, the leaker Digital Chat Station reported that the iPhone 18 Pro will largely resemble the iPhone 17 Pro, but with a few tweaks to distinguish it.

The design rumors include:

  • An unchanged display screen: the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to have the same 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays as their predecessors.

  • A slightly thicker design: the iPhone 17 Pro was 8.75mm thick, whereas the new one is expected to be 8.8mm. This will likely go unnoticed by most users, and we imagine it will only be clear if you put the two separate models next to each other.

  • A slimmed-down dynamic island: or possibly, no dynamic island at all.

  • A more unified look: Apple has reportedly altered the back glass. Its appearance should blend more fluidly with the aluminum frame and give it a sleek, streamlined finish.

iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max Tech Specs

The two variants of the iPhone 18 Pro are going to look stylish, and there’s some impressive technical elements hidden in their slender builds. The devices are likely to feature:

  • 12GB RAM

  • Up to 2TB of storage

  • A20 Pro Chip

  • C2 connectivity modem

  • Improved Apple Intelligence

  • iOS 27

  • Support for Apple Pencil

That 2TB of storage is especially intriguing, although it may result in a significant price hike. Arguably, the biggest improvement is the A20 Pro chipset. It’s a big evolutionary leap forward from the previous generation’s A19 chip, and should make the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max faster than their equivalents from the iPhone 17 series

The A20 promises more than just a quicker refresh rate though; it’s also rumored to be up to 30% more efficient. This means the iPhone 18 Pro will be an efficient multitasker and won’t put as much strain on the battery. Speaking of which…

A Bigger Battery?

According to Digital Chat Station, the iPhone 18 Pro is going to feature a battery with a cell capacity between 4,100mAh and 4,250mAh. Granted, that’s marginally less than the iPhone 17 Pro’s 4,252mAh, but there should still be a palpable difference thanks to the improvements in the chipset. The 18 series is likely to be far more efficient and could outdo the iPhone 17 Pro’s impressive 33 hours of playback.

There’s another tantalising rumor: the iPhone 18 Pro Max could be fitted with a battery that reaches 5,200mAh. The two models are expected to support 25W MagSafe charging and may offer wired charging up to 40W.

What Will the New iPhone Camera Be Like?

The majority of questions we receive in our inbox are focused - pun not intended - on cameras. We know that you guys love taking pictures, and there’s a lot to be excited for with the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.

Key rumors include:

  • A variable aperture: if you make a living as a video blogger or YouTuber, this will be very good news. A variable aperture will give creators a greater level of control over how much light reaches the sensor. You’ll be able to replicate professional-level lighting without having to invest in a full-scale photography studio.

  • A selfie camera upgrade: the front camera is said to be getting a serious makeover, courtesy of a new 24MP sensor. This will improve the level of detail in photos and also make it far easier to see clearly in video calls.

  • A larger camera sensor: the main camera is going to enjoy a boost too, as it’s upgrading to a 1.12-inch sensor size.

We’ve also seen chatter about a possible three-layer stacked sensor, but at present, we can’t confirm if this will appear on the entire iPhone 18 range or if it’s limited to one particular model.

The iPhone 18 Pro Release Date

The iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max are likely to be on sale by September. These two models are expected to debut alongside the hotly tipped iPhone Ultra, the first foldable Apple phone.

You might have noticed we didn’t include the standard iPhone 18 in that list. That’s because the base model isn’t expected to turn up until spring next year. Apple is planning a split release strategy, and while it’s unusual that the “advanced” versions are coming out first, it will mean that the iPhone 18 enjoys two significant rounds of publicity, rather than just one.

Additionally, Apple is putting tremendous effort into the iPhone Ultra. This is understandable, as the first folding iPhone is a newsworthy moment, and a direct attempt to compete with Samsung’s popular foldable Galaxy. In this context, the debut of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max looks less like the big brothers shoving their way to the front of a queue and more like a pair of honor guards escorting a champion to the battlefield.

Counting the Days to the Next iPhone

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are exciting additions to Apple’s catalogue of smartphones. We’re looking forward to getting hold of them and giving each a field test, but we’re expecting big things. And their sister phone - the iPhone Ultra - could upend the entire folding phone market.
