Everything We Know About the Samsung Wide Z Fold 2026

Regular visitors to this site will know that we’re looking forward to the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8. We’ve written about the expected specs and features already, and in that article, we mentioned one of its variants: the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide

The writer of that piece made a throwaway remark about how there was enough information to justify talking about the Z Fold 8 Wide at length. We’re not one to our promises unfulfilled, so here it is: everything we know about the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide

There have been all sorts of rumors floating around about the new Samsung devices, and we’ve collated all the best stuff. Want to know the expected release date? How about the tech specs or camera details? It’s all here.

What is the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide?

We should probably start at the beginning. What is a Samsung Wide Z Fold? In short, it’s a bigger version of the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8. It’s expected to launch later this year, and if the leaked information is correct, it is one of the more drastic changes to the design of Samsung’s flagship series.

The stereotypical Samsung device is a classic smartphone, but this new model looks more like a book than a phone. There has been increased interest in the upcoming foldable iPhone, and it looks as though Samsung is building a wider version of its own device to compete with it. The wide Z Fold 8 device blurs the line between smartphones and tablets. If the intent was to draw more attention towards Samsung and away from their rivals, job done.

When is the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide Release Date?

At present, nothing is official, but we anticipate that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide will be unveiled at Samsung’s summer showcase. This is traditionally held in July, and if previous years are anything to go by, all the new releases will be on sale to the public a fortnight later.

As per a report on the Korea Economic Times, this year’s showcase is said to be taking place in London on July 22nd. Add two weeks, and we have an expected release date of August 5th. It is possible that it’ll be later, but that would bring it closer to the market launch of the new iPhone. Samsung will most likely want to get all the media attention, rather than share it with Apple.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide Features and Tech Specs

We must admit, the first feature we noticed was the overall design. In the Ghostek office, most of the initial conversation revolved entirely around the wider dimensions and the big display screen. Once we dug further into the full features, though, we realized that there is more to this new Samsung phone than an attractive look.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide includes:

  • Approximate unfolded dimensions of 123.9 x 161.4 x 4.9mm

  • One less camera than the standard model

  • 12GB or 16GB RAM

  • Up to 1TB storage

  • 45W wired charging and 25W wireless charging

Intriguing, no? Let’s explore a little deeper.

Design and Display

The Z Fold 8 Wide looks like it will be a remarkably compact device (with a somewhat futuristic vibe), and won’t feel like a clunky weight in your pocket. By choosing a foldable design, it takes up less space. We were concerned that it might be overly bulky, but if the leaked renders are accurate, Samsung has neatly sidestepped this.

And when you first unfold it, you’ll be greeted with a frankly astonishing display screen. The internal display screen is 7.6 inches wide, and defaults to a landscape view with a 4:3 aspect ratio. This will be good news if you enjoy watching movies on your device. Your favorite films will look more like…well, films. And less like the characters are moving around a small, tightly packed world.

Alongside that, there’s also a 5.4-inch cover display. This will be noticeably wider than older generations of folding phones, which usually featured narrow cover screens.

Tech Specs

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide shares a lot of technical specifications with the standard Z Fold 8. Leaked specs include:

  • Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor

  • 120 Hz refresh rate

  • Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11, and USB Type-C connectivity

  • 45W wired fast charging

  • A 5,000mAh battery

  • 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB storage

By every metric, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is expected to be a high-quality phone. But so far, it doesn’t half look similar to the regular Galaxy Z Fold 8. Is there any notable difference besides the design?

Cameras

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide’s one major drawback is that it scales back on the cameras, at least compared to its siblings. The standard Z Fold devices feature a triple-lens setup, whereas the Z Fold 8 Wide has two.

This is likely an unfortunate side-effect of the foldable design. A three-lens camera system would make the phone bulkier when folded, and Samsung will likely have decided to remove one in order to slim the phone down.

That being said, while we imagine most photography enthusiasts would prefer another model from the Galaxy S26 collection, the Z Fold 8 Wide shouldn’t disappoint casual Android users. The remaining lenses should more than suffice for everyday photography and video recording.

Samsung Wide Z Fold: A Highly Anticipated Foldable Phone

You can probably tell from the overall tone of this article, but we’re looking forward to the new Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. We were fans of the short-lived Samsung Galaxy Z Trifold and were sad to see it go, but this goes some way to making up for it. The Galaxy Z Trifold sold out on its debut, but it seems that the high production costs worked against it.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, however, is part of a new generation of foldable phones. Apple and Google are both working on their own devices, so it shouldn’t be long until we see foldable Androids and iPhones sitting on the shelves.

You can keep up to date with all the latest news by regularly visiting Ghostek. We’ll be keeping a close eye on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide and other foldable phones as they enter the market and reporting on what we discover. And if all this has got you thinking about personalizing your own Samsung Galaxy, you can browse our collection of cases and accessories.
