6 Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Specs That Will Blow Your Mind

Samsung’s latest Galaxy Z Fold could be this year’s most innovative smartphone.

Launched alongside the Z Flip7 and the Galaxy Watch8 on July 9, 2025, this book-style foldable was tipped to be the “thinnest, lightest, and most advanced foldable yet meticulously crafted and built to last.”

After testing the Galaxy Z Fold7 for a few months, we can confirm that it definitely meets these expectations. The device is incredibly thin and doesn’t feature the clunky, awkward nature of other folding phones.

But with such a high price tag, should you invest in the Z Fold7? Read our thoughts on its top technical specifications before you decide.

What Are the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7’s Best Specs?

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7's top specs include everything from its thin design to the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. Let’s take a closer look at each one:

1. Slim Design

The Galaxy Z Fold7 measures 8.9 mm thick when closed and just 4.2 mm when opened into its small tablet form. These dimensions make Samsung’s latest folding phone significantly slimmer than the Z Fold 6 (at 12.1 mm and 5.6 mm), and only slightly thicker than the flagship Galaxy S25 when closed — an impressive achievement for a book-style foldable!

One downside to this thinness is the camera bump, which feels even more pronounced because of the phone’s overall size. The phone simply rocked back and forth when we tried to rest it on this bump, and we were worried about its instability. Of course, this is easily fixed by purchasing a specially designed Galaxy ZFold7 phone case

The Z Fold 7 is also the lightest Galaxy Z device so far, at 215 grams. (12 and 3 grams lighter than the iPhone 16 Pro Max and Galaxy S25 Ultra, respectively.) It also weighs 10% less than the Z Fold6!

However, despite being thin and lightweight, this device is just as durable as Samsung’s flagship range, featuring an advanced Armor Aluminum frame and IP48 water and dust resistance. It has a Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 Cover and a Victus 2 backing for extra drop-proofing, although we’d still recommend investing in a protective case!

These characteristics also apply to the Fold 7’s hinge. It’s slimmer and lighter but 10% stronger, thanks to the aluminum design.

2. New Colors

Samsung typically releases new colors for each smartphone series, and this year’s is no exception. The Z Fold7 is available in three standard shades and one Samsung store online exclusive finish:

  • Blue Shadow: The main option is a royal blue shade that looks similar to the S25’s Navy.

  • Silver Shadow and Jet Black: Two classic smartphone colors.

  • Mint: Our choice for this year’s standout shade is a pastel green that’s incredibly unique to anything Samsung has launched in the past.

3. Larger Cover Screen

With a generous 6.5-inch cover screen that shows important notifications and quick settings, you don’t even need to open the Z Fold7 to use it.

Switching from the cover display is also super seamless for those times you require the (11% larger!) 8-inch main screen, with no lagging during the transfer. This screen transforms the Galaxy Z Fold7 into a mini tablet. Watch videos and scroll simultaneously with split-screen mode!

We could also see the expansive screen much clearer outdoors thanks to its 2600-nit peak brightness. Samsung has almost eliminated the unavoidable crease that runs down the display’s center, too, particularly if you’re viewing it straight on.

4. 200-Megapixel Main Camera

Samsung hinted that the Galaxy Z Fold7’s cameras would be “at the heart of this transformation” — and they certainly weren’t wrong. The triple rear camera setup doesn’t compromise on quality, like many flagship foldables have in the past.

A standout camera spec this year is the 200 MP main lens, matching that of the premium Galaxy S25 Ultra. The Z Fold7 cameras also include:

  • 12 MP ultra-wide

  • 10 MP Telephoto

  • 10 MP selfie

Our only criticism is the positioning of the interior selfie lens. Rather than hiding under the screen, this year’s model has a camera hole right at the top, which reduces the actual viewable area of videos on the screen.

5. Galaxy AI Features for the Camera

Alongside the Z Fold7’s upgraded camera hardware is a selection of enhanced AI-powered features. While many of these features aren’t new, their improvements add a great suite of photo-editing and generative AI tools to the Galaxy Z Fold range:

  • Generative Edit: Working more seamlessly on the Z Fold7, Generative Edit removes objects and people from your photos, automatically filling in the modified areas. You can also resize and reposition objects, or expand backgrounds.

  • Audio Eraser: This built-in noise cancellation tool originally debuted during January’s Galaxy Unpacked event. It now automatically analyzes video audio and removes unwanted noises. Access the feature faster on the Galaxy Z Fold7 with the designated button under videos in your gallery.

6. Snapdragon 8 Elite Chip

Excitingly, the Z Fold7 runs on the same chip as the S25 series: the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Qualcomm’s latest chipset supports a fast, smooth performance and is particularly great for the upgraded generative Galaxy AI features.

Like the Galaxy Z Fold6, the Fold7 features 12 GB of RAM for the 256 GB and 512 GB storage options. But choose the 1 TB model and you’ll receive an impressive 16 GB!

It also comes with the latest Android 16 and One UI 8 software systems straight out of the box. Seven years of OS and security updates help you make the most of your new foldable for years to come.

Final Thoughts

At $2,000, there’s no doubt that the Galaxy Z Fold7 is an expensive flagship foldable. It will also set you back $100 more than its predecessor.

The foldable phone’s 4400 mAh battery is significantly smaller than other devices. The Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s 5015 mAh capacity is the first that springs to mind. It also only supports 25 and 15-watt wired and wireless charging speeds, which are slower than competitors.

The Z Fold7 doesn’t offer S Pen support either, which could be a drawback for creative or note-taking Samsung users — especially since typing is sometimes tricky on the expansive screen.

However, we see Samsung’s latest addition to the market as an incredibly impressive foldable phone overall, thanks to the thin and light frame that remains highly durable. This slim design doesn’t compromise on performance either, with a 200 MP main camera and the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.

Together, these specs make the Galaxy Z Fold 7 a welcome addition to the book-style foldable phone market, and one that we’d definitely consider investing in this year.
